San Diego Comic-Con 2009

SdcclogoIt's that time again.  July . . . and that means that the San Diego Comic-Con will be starting much sooner that I'm ready for it to start.  So much to do yet and so little time.

*sigh*

Anyway, I'll be there in Artist Alley, as usual.  My Artist Alley table number is CC-18.  I'll be next to my pal Grant Gould once again, which is great (he just announced that his graphic novel is becoming a webcomic, by the way).

This year at Comic-Con I'll be selling Oddly Normal books, natch.

I'll also have plenty of copies of Little White Rectangles Vol II, my 2009 con sketchbook.  The interior pages contains 81 sketch card images from the last year or so and 27 7-7-Sunday commissions.  As with last year's con sketchbook, it will be full color, cost just $1 and you will get a free drawing of any character you want on the cover!  Can't beat that deal with a stick.  No sir.

Here's a preview:

09-Sketchbook-Promo

I'll also be selling a special 23 page preview ashcan of Spellbinder!

SB-Cover

These ashcans will cost (drumroll) . . . one buck.  That's right.  One measly dollar.  Get em while they're hot, folks.

These con sketchbooks and ashcans will only be available for purchase at comic book conventions, store signings or other public appearances.  I will not be offering them for sale online.

I hope everyone gets a chance to pick one up from me and get a sketch!  See you in San Diego!

My Dad . . . 1947-2009

My Dad passed this morning.

He had been fighting the good fight for the last month and a half after learning that he was ill.  I was lucky enough to see him last month for about a week while he was in the hospital.  I'll be heading home tomorrow or the next day to say my goodbyes and be with family.

Thanks for all of the support, thoughts and prayers that everyone has been sending my way over the last two days.

UPDATE: June 29th, 2:30PM EST- And that's all she wrote, folks! 200 sketch cards sold in 2 days! Thank you so much to everyone for helping me and my bride buy a home. :)

Later this week I'll be posting a full listing of the people who placed orders and the order in which I will draw their cards.  I will also include the subject matter of each card so that anyone who wants to change their order can do so if they do not want to have a card with a similar theme to someone else's (this was suggested to me by a Ustream viewer).

Otis Frampton's "Sketch Card For Yard" Sale

SuperStock_1461R-120-FB~White-Picket-Fence-in-Front-of-a-House-Posters

Here's the deal . . .

My wife's main goal right now, aside from having a child, is to buy a house.  And we are planning to do so later this year.  In an effort to help raise some money for the down payment, I have decided to have another sketch card sale.  A "sketch card for yard" sale.  So, long story short . . .

My wife wants the white picket fence.  You want a sketch card.  Let's do business.

I am announcing that, on June 27th at 3:00PM EST and for a limited time, I am opening personal sketch card commissions.  I have exactly 200 slots to fill.  Here's the small print:

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!  FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS MAY RESULT IN LOSING A PLACE ON THE LIST!

-The cost per card is $20 (plus $2 for shipping in the Unites States and $5 for International shipping).
-These cards will be cut from bristol board.  They are not pre-printed.  There will be nothing printed on the backs.
-Each card will be placed inside a soft plastic sleeve and a plastic top loader card holder and shipped in a cardboard mailer.
-The drawings will be full-color.
-I will draw 1 character per card with some kind of background (dependent on which character it is).
-There are 200 slots available and you MAY request more than 1 card.
-I will be drawing these cards live on my Ustream webcast, in the order that I receive orders.  I will schedule at least 2 days a week for sketch card work, I will draw 5 cards per show and will let people know which cards I will be working on in advance on my website (the weekly schedule can be found here) so they can watch.  I will also record every show, in case someone misses their card being drawn.  I will draw 4 or 5 cards per sketch card show, so you must be patient in waiting for your card.  In other words, it may take me until the end of the year to finish the 200 cards I hope to sell during this sale.  I thank you in advance for this.
-I will begin drawing cards for this sale on July 9th, 2009.
-I only accept PayPal for payment and payment is required at the time of ordering.
-When ordering and paying, YOU MUST USE THIS E-MAIL ADDRESS:  otis@otisframpton.com
-Do NOT send the requests via private message on message boards, deviantART or any other public forum.  E-MAIL ONLY.
-Use the subject header Otis Frampton's "Sketch Card For Yard" Sale in the order request e-mail and the PayPal payment.
-DO NOT PAY until I have notified you that you are on the list.  If anyone pays before i confirm they will get a card, I will refund the money and they will not be on the list.
-Please include the following information in the order request e-mail and the PayPal payment:  what character you want me to draw, what name you want me to use for the Ustream schedule and your shipping address.
-My sketch card work is best when I have some story elements to work with, as opposed to standard pin-up style shots.  In other words, if you want me to do my best work on your commissions, give me a "story moment" to work with as opposed to just the name of a character.
-And once again . . . the sale will go live on June 27th, 2009 at 3:00PM EST.  Any orders sent to me before that time will be ignored/deleted.  I am posting this now so that people have some time to consider taking part in the offer and do not feel like they missed their chance to order a card.

Thanks in advance and I hope to see the winners in the Ustream chat room!

Movie Review: "Up"

UP_4_jpg_610x567
Its wonderful from beginning to end.

I wish I had more to say, but when a movie this good comes along there's really not much more to add.  Pixar is on a roll now with two home runs in a row after WALL-E, with Cars being a definite bump in the road and Ratatouille being a good but not great palate cleanser (IMHO, of course).  Hopefully Toy Story 3 will continue the company's winning streak.

Speaking of Pixar, here's how I'd rank their films from best to worst:  WALL-E, The Incredibles, Up, Toy Story 2, Monster's Inc, Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, A Bug's Life, and finally . . . Cars.

Anyway, go see Up.  It's one of Pixar's best yet, which is saying a lot.

You’re Invited: Special Ustream Drawing Jam!

Tomorrow, Wednesday May 27 at 9 PM ET, I will be holding a joint Ustream broadcast with artist Dani Jones.  The show will feature a live drawing jam where each of us will draw something based on a pre-selected theme.  This will be part 1 of 2 . . . the second part will be held next Wednesday, where we will each color the other artist's drawing.

This is sure to be a fun and unique event. Please come, watch, and chat!

For the event, Dani and I will each be broadcasting from our respective Ustream shows. You must have each show open in order to see both sides of the jam.  But if you would like to watch them on one web page, Dani has created a special site where you can watch and chat with each show simultaneously: http://www.danijones.com/ustream

However, if for any reason you have trouble viewing them there, you can open each individual show page on Ustream:

Otis Frampton Live: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/Otis-Frampton-Live

Dani Draws: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/dani-draws

Hope to see you there!
