Bolt - Loved it. Loooooooooved it. My second favorite animated film of 2008, after WALL*E.
I haven't laughed that hard in I don't know when. It's very close to
bumping something from my 2008 Film Faves list . . . I just can't
figure out which one to bump.
Charlie Wilson's War
- A solid, entertaining film about a relatively unknown story from the
pre-history of the War on Terror. But I wonder if Mike Nichols and
Aaron Sorkin (one of my favorite writers) truly understand and take to
heart the ultimate moral conclusion of their own movie.
Frost/Nixon - Seek out and watch the actual interviews, instead. They're more enlightening and most assuredly more factual (even David Frost has derided the film for its narrative liberties). This is Ron Howard's first bad film, IMHO.
Gran Torino - "Unforgiven 2". A good film and Clint is great in it (as always), but he's covered this ground before in better films. Still, ya gotta be impressed by the guy. At 78, he can still hit a solid double on both sides of the camera.
Hello Dolly - I felt
like I was missing something, being such a fan of WALL*E and never
having seen the film that features so prominently in the story of that
lonely robot. I'm happy to report that I enjoyed it.
Surf's Up - Surprisingly enjoyable and beautiful to look at. Jeff Bridges is hilarious doing a repeat performance as "The Dude".
Wanted - Enjoyable, for the most part. But I must be getting old, because bloody, fetishistic violence just makes me uneasy these days.
