Welcome to the second installment about the making of a new commission project, Indiana Jones and the Siberian Death Ray! Go HERE to read the first entry.
As I post each finished piece for this series next week I'll be telling part of the story I have written. But until then I'll tease you with some details:
- The story takes place in 1933.
- Like the existing films, it is a globe-trotting adventure with settings in the United States, Paris and Siberia.
- It features three characters who are figures from history. Great care has been taken to assure that their respective histories align with that of Indiana Jones at the time that the story takes place (with one fanciful and speculative exception)
- Three chase scenes feature in three of the five planned images. Two are vehicle-based chases.
And now for some more developmental sketches . . .
In this story, Indy's adventure is set off not by the appearance of government agents (top men), but by a mild-mannered lab assisstant with a mysterious package:
Marcus Brody makes a brief appearance in the story at the very beginning, serving a similar function that he did in Raiders of the Lost Ark:
Much like Mola Ram's Thugees in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, the villain of this piece has goons to do his dirty work:
And in a nod to The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, two of Indy's companions in this story are real-world figures. You already saw one in the previos post about this project. Here's the other:

My schedule has shifted a bit, so the original dates for working on this project have shifted by one week. I meant to make an announcement about that, but I simply forgot. My apologies.
On Saturday, June 25th I'll be doing a special artcast that will show me doing the rough sketches for each of the five commissions. The following week, June 27th-July 1st, I will color the final pieces live on my artcast.
See you soon and thanks for reading!
-Otis
