Oddly Normal got a great review from Newsarama.com. More specifically, it got a great review from some of my favorite fans, Tracy Edmunds and her daughters Sarah & Shelby.
I met the Edmunds at the San Diego Comic-Con last year. They were very kind and seemed genuinely enthusiastic about my (then) newly released mini-series. Apparently, they had read the first 3 issues and were anxious to read #4, which was first released at Comic-Con. They reviewed the individual issues in their All Ages column at Movie Poop Shoot and were very kind to me and the book in their review.
One year later, and their enthusiasm for Oddly seems to have increased, which is always a good thing. In fact, they were some of the first people to greet me at this year's Comic-Con, arriving at my Artist's Alley table just minutes after at got there myself. Here are some pictures of me, Sarah and Shelby:
Anyway, the kind Edmunds ladies reviewed the recently released trade paperback at Newsarama.com. Here is an exerpt:
This is a really good book. On one level, it’s a nice twist on the classic misfit tale that kids will relate to, while on quite another level it examines the nature of mankind and our beliefs in good and evil. While most of the philosophy and some of the vocabulary went way over the girls’ heads, they really enjoyed the story and could relate to the characters. This would be a great book to have kids reread every year because they will get more out of it each time. Otis Frampton manages to reference Ambrose Bierce and Edmond Burke, quote Shakespeare and the Rolling Stones, and create a cute little critter that says, “Oopie! Oopie!” Oddly Normal pretty much defines “all ages” – it’s as interesting and relevant to kids as it is to adults. I’m really looking forward to Volume 2.

I'm hoping that they enjoy the next entry in Saga of Oddly. I'd hate to lose such great fans.

As I said in a previous post, Rich Smolen kept me eating during the con by purchasing my Lord of the Rings cards from the dealer area and then heading over to Artist's Alley to have me finish them.

Here are some photos taken during the Avengers sketch card promo signing! There are a ton of pics from this event, because intrepid reporter Leigh made sure of it (she also got us extra silver markers, so thanks a ton, milady).
Instead of a day by day, detailed con report (like I promised, and like I did last year), I'm going to be forced to just post pictures with comments. I'm bogged down with work (which is a good thing) so I can't spend a lot of time blogging.
