"Bossy"

This is a piece I've been working on here and there since before the first page of The Song of Xanthia was posted. I wanted to create a full color image that showed off some of the villains that Min might encounter when her adventure begins.

This piece was drawn and colored in Photoshop CS4 using a Wacom Cintiq 21UX.

The Song of Xanthia OST: "Min The Fisher"

Music has been a hobby of mine since I was in junior high school. I was in a number of bands during my time in high school and I've dabbled in songwriting ever since.  In recent years, GarageBand has become of of my favorite Apple programs and it has always been my intention to write and record more original music.  Unfortuntely, I've had very little time to do so and have never been happy with the results when I did (I have a decent voice, but it's just not as much fun being a one-man-band as it is being part of a team).

But when I started working on the story for The Song of Xanthia, I saw an opportunity to make music a part of the project.  Xanthia was inspired by The Legend of Zelda, and one of my favorite things about the Zelda series is the music.  I have the soundtracks for three Zelda games on my iPhone and listen to them regularly.  I thought it might be fun and creatively fulfilling to compose music to go along with the comic.

I've been composing music for about two months now.  I have five pieces in various stages of completion.  I put the finishing touches on one of them this morning.

The first track, "Min The Fisher", is now available for your listening pleasure (best listened to using headphones):

This song was composed and recorded in Apple's GarageBand using the Symphony Orchestra Jam Pack and an M-Audio KeyStudio 49 USB MIDI Controller.

I hope you enjoy this webcomic "bonus material".  I certainly had fun creating it.  I hope to have more music to share with you all very soon.

It's A Girl!

Okay, apparently, there's been some confusion about the gender of Min, the main character of The Song of Xanthia.

Min is a girl.  She's 13 years old.

I have a feeling this confusion came about because the primary influence for this comic is The Legend of Zelda, and let's face it . . . Link isn't exactly the most masculine hero out there.

I just wanted to clear that up. 

And just for fun, here's a color version of Min so you can see what she would look like if the comic were done in full color:
